Submit your own: 350 reasons to oppose carbon trading

Mon 12 Oct 09

On Oct. 24, the international day of climate action, Rising Tide North America and Carbon Trade Watch are calling for people to join in opposition to carbon trading by creating a list of 350 reasons to oppose carbon trading. Our goal is to push the envelope within the climate movement and go beyond numerical targets to include a focus on root causes and exposing false solutions, with the central point that reaching 350ppm will be all but impossible if carbon trading is our strategy for doing so. Learning from and building up from Climate Camp '08

Over 1600 people participated in the camp across five inspirational days. Students, mothers, fathers, coal miners, unionists and members of the local community were there. Together we talked up a storm, ate amazing meals, created a community based on direct democracy, laughed and then pulled off the largest non-violent direct action in the Australian climate movements history.

Occupation of ALP Headquarters

Wed 24 Jun 09

Around 50 people attended a climate protest at Australian Labor Party Headquarters in Sydney this morning, angry at the NSW Government’s budget decision to expand coal power in the state.

The Eraring Power Station, on Lake Macquarie south of Newcastle, is the equal largest power station in Australia, and emits around 12 million tonnes of carbon dioxide per annum. In last week's State Budget, the NSW Government allocated more than $200 million to expanding the power station. The expansion would see the capacity of Eraring increase from 2640MW to 2880MW.
