Get Involved in FoE Sydney

Friends of the Earth Sydney is a community-based collective working for social and environmental justice. There are a number of ways that you can get involved to suit your interests, time and skills:

1. Come along to FoE Sydney meetings and get involved in our campaigns

In 2010, we are focusing on a campaign against dangerous offsetting projects and dodgy carbon trading schemes, and taking action for climate justice.

We meet most Tuesday nights from 6:30pm in Newtown. We welcome new members, ideas, initiatives and projects. Please get in touch and come along.

2. Become a member of FoE Sydney

Click here to become a member of Friends of the Earth (FoE) Sydney [the membership page is part of the FoE Australia website]. We are committed to grass-roots, democratic organising and believe an active membership is an essential part of this. We work with all of our members to foster mutual support, participation and activism.

3. Volunteer/Intern opportunities

There are volunteer / intern opportunities in campaign areas and also in building Friends of the Earth Sydney. FoE Sydney relies on the generous work and support of its volunteers and recognises volunteers are absolutely essential to the success of the organisation in working towards an environmentally sustainable and socially justice future.

Volunteer opportunities may be sustained (eg, working in the FoE office every Wednesday afternoon), short-term, or project-based (eg. contributing to a research project on profiles of carbon traders in Sydney). We welcome people to come up with their own campaign, research or project ideas, and we are flexible.

4. Start Your Own Project

One of the aims of Friends of the Earth (FoE) Sydney is to support people in self-organisation and community-based action for social and environmental justice. FoE Sydney recognises that we can't work on everything. That’s why we want to help others get started on their own projects. FoE Sydney isn’t interested in supporting only the work that is part of Friends of the Earth, but instead wants to see a vibrant, diverse, and kick-arse movement for social change. If you’re keen to get a project up and running and think that the big, warm, umbrella of FoE Sydney would help in some way then get in contact with us.

Download the Group Projects Policy document to get a better idea about what it all involves.
